The AR Lab and the research department Innovative Visualisation Techniques, both headed by Yolande Kolstee, coordinated four Pop-Up Galleries alongside four lectures organised by the Royal Academy of Art’s lecture programme, Studium Generale. A Pop-Up Gallery is an exhibition of limited duration – one evening only. These events enabled students from different departments at the Academy to showcase the results of their research into the artistic possibilities of new media – specifically Augmented Reality (AR).
The AR Lab's fourth and last Pop-Up Gallery of the current study year took place on 23 May 2013. Interactive Media Design in Wonderland was a great succes! Students were supervised by lecturers Casper Koomen and Nick van 't End, who helped them to create very diverse, interactive and autonomous art pieces.
You are hereby cordially invited to come and have a look at the AR Lab's fourth Pop-Up Gallery on Thursday 23 May 2013. We open directly after the Studium Generale lectures given by Cox & Grusenmeyer and Annelein Pompe, in the Bleijenburg hall at the Academy.
On 23 april an extra Pop-Up Gallery, Coding Victory Boogie Woogie, was organised by the research department IVT and the AR Lab. The event was inspired by the coding competition that Utrecht based medialab Set-Up initiated.
During the extra Code Pop-Up Gallery works of, amongst others, the ArtScience/C0d3l4b were on display.
Coding as skill for artists. Works by ArtScience/C0d3l4b students as well as some works from the contest to code Mondriaan's Victory Boogie Woogie, will be on show on TUESDAY 23 April, at 16.00 hrs in the Gallery. This is an extra Pop-Up Gallery in the Pop-Up series initiated by the research department IVT. The first Pop Up Gallery was with Graphic Design students, followed by Photography students and Fine Art students.
On 21 March 2013, the third Pop-Up Gallery - Augmented Reality of the Subconscious - took place which attracted quite a crowd. Preceding that, two lectures were orginised by Studium Generale: Scarlett Hooft Graafland and Lieven van Velthoven. Students from the Fine Arts department showed their work with AR; they were supervised by guest teacher Nick van t End.
The third Pop-Up Gallery on Augmented Reality will take place on 21 March 2013 at 18.30 hrs in the Bleijenburg hall at the Academy! Fine Art students create works based on the theme Augmented Reality of the Unconscious. Prior to the exhibiton, and orginised by Studium Generale, AR-artist Lieven van Velthoven will present his work and Scarlett Hooft Graafland is set to give her presentation entitled "Soft Horizons, realtime software, games and art".
The second AR Lab Pop Up Gallery took place on Thursday 21 February 2013, where works by students from the Photography department were on show. Just like the first edition, the research department IVT collaborated with Studium Generale. After the lectures in STOOR, the audience went on to the Bleijenburg hall for the Gallery (and for the drinks).
After the busy and festive first AR Lab Pop-Up Gallery on 15 November 2012, the second edition opens on February 21, 2013 in the Bleijenburg hall (ground level) at the KABK. Works from Photography students will be on show and artists Keetje Mans and Wouter Prins will give a presentation about their work.
On Thursday 15 November 2012, the AR Lab organised the first in a string of Pop-Up Galleries, which attracted a lot of interest, in close collaboration with the research department Innovative Visualisation Techniques and the Royal Academy of Art’s Studium Generale. For the first edition, students of the Graphic Design Department were asked to work on the concept of AR.
