AR+RFID-Lab: September 2006 - December 2007

The AR-Lab started in September 2006 as the AR+RFID-Lab. It was (and still is) based in the Royal Academy of Art, Prinsessegracht 4, The Hague. The AR+RFID-Lab was funded by a one-year Raak-MKB grant. This first project period ended in December 2007.

The AR+RFID-Lab started as a consortium with the Faculty of Applied Sciences at TU-Delft, Prof. dr.ir. Pieter Jonker, and the following SME’s:

  • Bullhorst Architects and City Builders
  • Fabrique, Multi Media and Product Design
  • Ben Kuipers, Landscape Architect
  • Barbara Vos
  • Escher in the Palace
  • Chess
  • New media artists including Taco Stolk and Marina de Haas

Pawel Pokutycki was responsible for the RFID development. Jurjen Caarls, MSc was based in our Lab doing his PhD research. Jan Willem Brandenburg, MSc from TU-Delft, was based in our Lab in a post-graduate position.

One of the highlights was the design of a new head-mounted display by Niels Mulder, in July 2007, who then graduated from the post-graduate course Industrial Design.

The installation at TodaysArt Festival in The Hague on September 19, 2007 was a huge success, with AR art by Marina de Haas.
